How the Crypto Community is responding to the Ukraine Crises: Binance Charity supports UNICEF’s efforts to help children in Ukraine

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues into the second week, there has been a lot of destruction to property and human lives across Ukraine. This has triggered somewhat humanitarian crises with many escaping to neighbouring countries such as Poland. The situation is exacerbated by the disruption in financial and economic systems across Ukraine. To help mitigate the impact of the war, the crypto community is responding favourably through donations to aid organisations such as the RedCross and UNICEF while the Ukrainian government itself has put out crypto wallet addresses for anyone seeking to send in donations.

Binance Charity, supported by the world’s leading crypto exchange, Binance.com, announced a 2.5 million USD equivalent crypto donation to UNICEF to support the organization’s life-saving work for children and their families in Ukraine and in hosting countries.

As the conflict escalates, it poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the country’s 7.5 million children. Humanitarian needs are increasing by the hour. Many children are profoundly traumatized by the violence all around them. Hundreds of thousands of people are on the move, and family members have been separated from their loved ones.

The funds donated by Binance Charity come at a crucial time, with UNICEF needing to scale up its activities in Ukraine and neighbouring countries to reach every child in need of protection.

CZ, Founder and CEO of Binance, said: “The rate at which this conflict is escalating has shocked the world. To think just over a week ago Ukraine’s children were laughing, playing, attending school; and now we’re hearing of children casualties, thousands forced to flee or take shelter, it’s heartbreaking. We’re grateful for our ongoing collaboration with UNICEF, which with the support of the Binance community, provides emergency relief to help ease some of the suffering these children and their families are facing.”

“Children in Ukraine are terrified, in shock and desperate for safety. We rely on the generosity and support of the global business community to help UNICEF and our partners reach those children and their families whose lives and futures hang in the balance,” said Carla Hadid Mardini, Director of UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division in Geneva. “We thank Binance Charity for their quick support which will help us at this critical time,” she added.

In addition to this, various communities have announced funding successes from the global crypto community through NFTs donations, for example, to support the humanitarian crises in Ukraine.

This shows the potential of the crypto community to be an alternative financial system and rally the global community to support worthy courses such as this.
